WE MEET AGAIN GHOULS AND GHOSTS! WELCOME TO A HAUNTED San Diego GHOST TOURS DOUBLE FEATURE! Behold: THE HORTON GRAND HOTEL.
The building gets its name from the titular Alonzo Horton, considered to be the father of San Diego for his creation of New Town which later became the Gaslamp District. The building was Originally two separate 19th century hotels in different parts of downtown: The Grand Horton Hotel and The Brooklyn-Kahle Saddlery Hotel, both were dismantled and rebuilt brick by brick in 1986 to form the new Horton Grand Hotel on 4th and Island.
Now ever since the reconstruction, the Brooklyn-Kahle side of the hotel has been housing two permanent paranormal residents living within rooms 209 and 309.
Now we have been granted access by the Horton Grand to tour inside these rooms for you to see this evening, leaving you the option to choose which room you’d like to enter first: Room 209 or Room 309? Make your decision down below to learn more haunted history from this fascinating hotel and visit us at Hauntedsandiegotours.com

Room 209 Ida Bailey – The Horton Grand Hotel
Step inside room 209 and make yourself comfortable with our resident ghost, the infamous Miss Ida Bailey, the fiery red haired madam and owner of the finest gentlemen’s parlor in The Stingaree, The Canary Cottage, located exactly on Island Ave, where the Horton Grand stands today.
High officials, including the chief of police and the mayor of San Diego, would often frequent this wayward establishment, Not looking for the average woman of the night but, instead, girls dressed like aristocracy who spoke with eloquence and class and spent their nights with “Gentlemen callers”, at a price. Ida Bailey made quite a name for herself in life and now spends her retirement still waiting on Gentlemen callers.
Guests of room 209 claim to hear knocking at the door. Now it’s said if a woman answers the door she’ll see nothing, but if a man answers, he may see The Madame herself in her crimson red dress before slowly dissipating before his eyes. Other guests have seen her inside the room and have reported her as quite friendly.
If you’ve enjoyed your stay at room 209, please be sure to visit Room 309 below and come visit the Horton Grand on our Gaslamp Walking Tour and Bus Tour. We go inside the lobby area and if not too busy the bar. To get in the rooms you’ll have to reserve them yourselves.
Room 390 – Roger Whitacre – The Horton Grand Hotel

Roger had accrued a massive debt and decided to try cheating at a game of cards down at the roughest saloon in town: The 7 Buckets of Blood, located exactly on island ave. where the Horton Grand stands today.
The outcome went as well as you’d expect and Roger was promptly shot, however it was only a flesh wound and Roger fled and hid out in a nearby hotel armoire, not knowing the trail of blood that led to his location . Roger was soon found and shot a second time, ending the life of one of the more colorful characters of The Stingaree district.
Guests inside room 309 have reported seeing Roger dressed in cowboy regalia and slowly dissipating before their eyes. Other paranormal events include the door locking from the inside, lights flickering, and moved bed frames to scare off would be guests. The Haunted Hotel Del Coronado Ghost
Hello ghouls and ghosts and welcome to a new series focused on Haunted locations in the San Diego area. First, we’ll start with the iconic and infamous Hotel Del Coronado, built-in 1888 by Elisha Babcock Jr. and Hampton Story. It was an architectural marvel at the time being one of the largest buildings in the country to have running electricity.
The Del is recognized for its prime oceanfront location with famous residents including L Frank Baum, Marilyn Monroe, and its featured guest, Miss Kate Morgan. Kate Morgan checked into the Hotel Del in November of 1892 and never checked out. She was soon found dead with a gunshot to the head on the beachfront stairs of The Del.
The Coroners ruled it a suicide despite the fact that the bullet did not match the gun found in Miss Morgan’s Hand. She’s still said to haunt the very room she stayed at room 3327. Residents have reported various accounts of paranormal activity in the room including seeing the ghostly apparition of a woman dressed in black. Perhaps you will too.
We give you more information on our tour, though we do not actually get to visit the Del. To schedule a tour, please click the book now button or call 619.255.6170
San Diego’s Enchanted Villa Montezuma
Hello, again ghouls and ghosts and welcome to part 2 of spooky spots in San Diego. I welcome you to the Flamboyant victorian Mansion, The Villa Montezuma. Built by the High Brothers in 1887, it once stood as the first and only building in the Sherman Heights area. With perfect unobstructed views of San Diego from the tower of the house.
Its most striking features are the priceless John Mallon and Sons stained glass portraits featuring famous dramatists and poets such as Corneille, Goethe, Sappho, and my personal favorite, William Shakespeare. The house was built for a world-renowned psychic performer, metaphysical writer, and traveler, Mr. Jesse Shepard (also known as Francis Grierson.
Jesse was said to channel the spirits of dead composers through his masterful piano playing and multiple octave voice. The high brothers built the villa absolutely FREE specifically for Jesse to perform concert seances in the candlelit music room. It’s said music can still be heard within the villa to this day despite no one living there for years. For more please visit VillaMontezumaMuseum.org
On our bus tour you will visit The Villa Montezuma. To schedule a tour, please click the book now button or call 619.255.6170
